Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of Gymnastics?
Gymnastics is one of the best sports a child can ever experience because it builds strength, balance, co-ordination, flexibility, muscle-tone and a general boost to overall fitness. Gymnastics teaches self-confidence, body awareness and discipline. It also encourages athletes to set and achieve personal goals.
For more information, read Parent Resources, courtesy of Gymnastics Ontario.

How do I know what class to register my child in?

When first starting into a recreational program you would select a class based on the child’s age that they are or will be within the first month of the program. Once a child age 5+ have completed a program with FCGC we will then move them into classes based on the skill level they are working on.

When should I register my child for an advanced recreational class?

Our Advanced recreational gymnastics classes are designed for athletes who have mastered their Cangym levels 1 & 2 badges (Red & Burgundy). The advanced class is for athletes who are looking for a longer class time as well as bigger challenges. The 2hr advanced class allow the athletes to hit all of the equipment every week to allow them more time to get through the skills required for each level.

Can I switch class days/times once the program has already started?

Absolutely. We know sometimes it is hard to know when other activities will be scheduled at the time of our registration. We will be happy to switch your child into a different day or time if a spot is available. (This is only available once per session)

What is a session? Why are some sessions more expensive?

FCGC offers four sessions per year based on seasons: Summer, Fall, Winter & Spring. The fall session is generally the longest session running 14-15 weeks. The Winter and Spring run 12 weeks and the summer is the smallest session which only run through July and August. Session Fees are based on the number of weeks in the program. A schedule is posted for each session which show the dates the program is running. Changes recently have been made to our regular programing due to Covid. As a result, some of our sessions may be shorter.

Do you offer a discount for siblings?

Yes, FCGC offers a discount for each additional child registered in the same session. These discounts can even be applied to multiple classes, so one child can receive discounts on multiple classes booked.

How does payment work?

We require a deposit of half the invoiced amount to be paid within 10 days of registration. Remaining balance is then due on or before the first day of classes. For your convenience we accept cash, cheque, debit, Visa & MasterCard (There will be a 3% surcharge for Visa / MasterCard payments). To make payment you can drop into our facility, call in credit card information or mail a cheque.

Is there any financial assistance available to help attend a gymnastics program?

Yes! FCGC works with the JUMPSTART program that is through Canadian Tire.

What is the G.O/Admin Fee? What does it cover?

The $40 (plus HST) Gymnastics Ontario Membership fee is required to participate in any gymnastics program in Ontario. The membership fee must be paid once during the Gymnastics Ontario year, which runs July 1st to June 30th. (This fee cannot be pro-rated). This fee ensures every member and club is covered by liability insurance as well as accident medical coverage. A valid Gymnastics Ontario membership is transferrable between any gymnastics club in good standing.

What to wear and bring to class?

For recreational gymnastics classes, children can wear either shorts and a T-Shirt (something tight fitting so it will not slide over your child’s head if they go upside down), or a gymnastics leotard. All participants must be bare feet for safety reasons. Hair must be pulled away from the face into a ponytail with an elastic band. We do not have a fountain so please have your child bring a water bottle with them as they are allowed quick water breaks. Competitive athletes must wear a one piece leotard.

Can my child do a trial class?

Unfortunately, due to insurance and liability issues, we do not offer trial or drop-in classes. Each athlete that enters our gym is required to pay a yearly Gymnastics Ontario Fee, for insurance and liability reasons, along with their registration. Without having paid this yearly fee, children are not allowed to enter the gym in case of an injury or accident.

What type of program will my child participate in during classes at FCGC?

We run the CANGYM program which is Gymnastics Canada’s National skill development and evaluation program. Girls are required to complete 20 different skills per level using the 4 women’s apparatus (Beam, Bars, Vault and Floor). Boys complete 20 different skills per level using the 6 men’s apparatus (Floor, Vault, Parallel Bars, Rings, Pommel Horse and Horizontal Bar). CANGYM is a progressive 12 badge program that challenges kids to develop their gymnastics skills in a fun and safe environment.

Can I request a coach for my child's class?

We will do our best to help you with this, however coaches are scheduled based on their own availability as well as how they fit best as a coach in a particular session.

What is your refund policy?

Refunds are only offered for enrollment with no less than 14 days         notice notice prior to the beginning of a session or camp and will not be offered after that time period. Deposits are non-refundable. The mandatory Gymnastics Ontario Fee of $40 is non-refundable.

Do you offer makeup classes or refunds for classes missed?

We do not offer makeup classes for missed classes unless FCGC cancels due to an unexpected issue out of our control. There are no refunds for missed classes.

What happens when weather is bad?

Classes very rarely get cancelled, however in the event that this needs to happen, we will post weather updates on our website as well as through our social media pages. Please note: We are unable to schedule make up classes for those that are cancelled due to inclement weather.

What's the difference between recreational and competitive programs?

Recreational Programs are designed for participants of all ages from 18 months up to and including teen and adult programs. Recreational programs participate one day a week from anywhere from 45 minutes up to 3 hours classes. Competitive programs are ‘by invitation of coaches only’. Competitive athletes train anywhere from 2-4 days per week, anywhere from 2 to 4 hrs per class. Days and times are dependant on an assessment of where a child is placed within the competitive program.

Could my child be a good candidate for the competitive program?

FCGC’s competitive team is open for assessments based on availability. Our coaches assess students within our recreational program who might be good candidates for our competitive team. We also run 1-2 assessments each year. If you are interested in an asessment please reach out to our front desk to discuss.

What makes a good candidate for the competitive program?

Coaches seek athletes with natural ability, strength, hard working, flexibility and gymnasts who possess potential for growth in the competitive stream. Family commitment to a long-term program is also a consideration when inviting into the competitive program.

Who do I contact about the competitve program?

For information about our competitive program, please email us at fcgcmanager@gmail.com
